Freight Agent Spotlight: Kam Sihota and Paul Singh

Siblings Kam Sihota and Paul Singh grew up in logistics, watching their father haul freight as a truck driver and eventually turning that family experience into a fast-growing GlobalTranz freight agency and new Unishippers franchise. From their home base near Detroit, they've built H&P Freight LLC into a high margin, multimode operation focused on less-than-truckload (LTL) and truckload (TL) freight. They are the epitome of a successful family business.

Along the way, they've learned how to balance family dynamics with business decisions, lean on GlobalTranz's carrier network and support, and enjoy the flexibility and upside of agency ownership. In this Q&A, Kam and Paul share how they got started, what it takes to create successful family businesses and enjoy the freedom and upside of agency ownership.

What's it like working together as siblings and creating a successful family business?

Paul: We butt heads — no question. But it's a good thing. There are things I know more about. There are a lot of things she knows more about. We don't scream at each other, but our arguments can get intense because we're both direct. If I'm doing something wrong, I want Kam to tell me. If she's doing something wrong, I'll tell her. I actually like working with her. She's my older sister. I've learned a lot from her, and she's helped me a ton. I see myself as the sales guy, and she's the mastermind who keeps everything running.

Kam: It's definitely better working with him than with some random partner. At the end of the day, we're siblings. It's easier to work things out. We live in the same house. He's literally right across the hall — so we're constantly communicating. I wouldn't be where I am without him, and he wouldn't be where he is without me. We were each doing our own thing in logistics, but once we teamed up, that's when things really took off.

Paul: Watching my dad drive a truck and seeing Kam work in logistics — especially during COVID when the freight market was crazy — really pushed me in this direction. She was working from home, doing big numbers and I remember thinking, "That's what I want. I want to be a logistics broker." She's the one who convinced me to come into the industry and ultimately over to GlobalTranz with her.

You've started a Unishippers franchise, too, which is part of the WWEX Group family of brands alongside GlobalTranz. Why did you make that move?

Paul: Our main goal is to close the gaps so we can say "yes" to almost anything a customer needs. I never want to tell a customer, "We don't do that." UPS® small parcel was the one big piece we were missing.

Kam: That whole expansion push was really Paul. I'm someone who likes to pick a lane and stick with it. My comfort zone was truckload. I didn't even want to touch LTL at first. He kept telling me, "LTL is great, LTL is great," and now the biggest GlobalTranz customer is an LTL account.

It was the same thing with Unishippers. I was hesitant, wondering if we could really focus on everything at once. He kept saying, "We can do it," and now here we are — FTL, LTL, parcel, franchising — the whole package.

Why did you choose GlobalTranz? And how did the 3PL help you create a successful family business?

Kam: Before GlobalTranz, I was working with another brokerage and started to look around. I reached out to a GlobalTranz recruiter, and we had a really good conversation, and then I met the rest of the team that would help get us set up. The difference in support compared to what I had before was night and day.

On top of that, the other brokerage didn't offer LTL the way GlobalTranz does. And then you add in the sales competitions, the ability to win money and the trips to Mexico — it was a huge upgrade all around. I'm genuinely glad I chose GlobalTranz. The support is unlike anything I've had at any other logistics company.

How important is GlobalTranz's carrier network when you sell?

Paul: It's a big part of my pitch. I talk about the strength of WWEX Group overall and how big we are in logistics. There aren't many companies that can provide all of these solutions at scale like we can. Even though the parcel side runs through Unishippers and the LTL/truckload runs through GlobalTranz, it's still one relationship for the customer. They're working with me, not juggling five different brokers.

What are your goals for the future?

Kam: Long term, we want to grow the team and eventually have an office. My personal milestone is to hit a million in margin. Once we're there, we want to start hiring people on salary with benefits. It's hard to bring people in on 100% commission. We want to be able to offer a real package — salary, benefits and a solid career path — and build a big, stable agency.

What's your favorite thing about owning a GlobalTranz agency?

Paul: Flexibility. We get to work from home and set our own schedule. If I want to take a day and not make calls, I can. The tradeoff is you have to stay self-motivated. It's easy to slack off, stop cold calling and stop bringing in new customers if you aren't disciplined. But the feeling of owning your time and building something that's yours is worth it.

Kam: Same for me. The flexibility is huge, and we do put in more hours than we would as employees, but it feels different because it's our business. We want it to grow. And the money side is a big difference, too. Here, we're in the 65–70% commission range. Other places, I was making 4%. Going from 4% to 70% — the numbers are just crazy. If you're good at this and you're willing to work, there's nothing better than having your own agency, especially with GlobalTranz: the support, the competitions, the awards, the trips. It's all awesome.

Tell us about the recent sales awards you've won!

Paul: In March, I won the Account Executive sales competition for highest margin from new customers — accounts brought on in 2025. I came in first place in March, and then I came in first again at the most recent conference in January. Kam won the New Agency Owner award, and Ethan — our third team member at GlobalTranz — came in sixth in the new agency category.

Kam: The Mexico trip is next month — the last week of March, around the 25th. Paul's going, I'm going. Ethan can't make it because of family obligations, and GlobalTranz is taking care of him financially since he can't attend. Paul is taking his girlfriend. I'm taking my boyfriend, and on top of the trip, Paul won $7,000 for coming in first. I won $1,000, Ethan won $1,000, and back in March Paul won about $3,000. That's money we simply wouldn't have seen at most other companies.

What would you say to someone who's on the fence about starting a GlobalTranz freight agency?

Kam: I'd say, "just do it." It's scary to walk away from a salary, benefits and security. But if you have a core group of customers who are willing to follow you, it's absolutely worth it.

When Paul was about to quit his first job out of college, my parents were very hesitant. They were worried about him giving up a paycheck, health insurance, everything. I told them to trust me and trust him. Last year, he made four to five times what he would have made working for someone else just because of the commission structure. You can't let fear stop you. If you're passionate about this and willing to work, starting an agency will pay off.

Paul: A lot of my friends told me not to do it. They're comfortable with a steady 9 to 5 and a fixed salary. Me and Kam are hungry. We wanted more. Coming here and starting our own agency was the best decision of my life. We also did it at the right time. We're still young and have a long runway to grow this into something big.
